What’s your favorite swear word?
| March 17th, 2004I quite enjoyed this funny film short (I wonder how long before the link expires?). Via Maurin Quina Likes To Drink. Don’t watch it if swear words offend you.
UPDATE: I’ve updated the link to one that may last longer (and was also bigger on my screen). Thanks to Ananna for leaving the new URL in the comments.

The actual film is located at: http://www.channel4.com/media/generic/swearing1.swf in case it ever goes away or anything.

Aw, shucks, just a little “View Source” here and a little “Copy” there and a little bit of “Paste”. I don’t “Preview” though, I like to live on the edge.
By the way, the Channel 4 site has some cool short films on it and you don’t have to register to watch them.

My favorite swear words:
Tabarnak (all-purpose swear word, equivalent to fuck — literally means Tabernacle)
Càlisse (literally - Chalice)
Ostie (or ’sti) (literally - Host)
What can I say, those Quebecois fascinate me :p

I guess I’m a nerd, but I’m rather partial to “frell.”
You know, from Farscape that show that the frellin’ Sci-Fi Channel canned?
And I thought “feldercarp” from Battlestar Galactica was amusingly silly, and I’m not surprised Ronald Moore’s remake steered clear of it.

And then there’s the favourite of anyone living in Moncton, N.B. (which is the only east coast city I’ve heard it in, but I could be wrong:
“Shit-the-goddam!”
Useful in proclaiming disbelief, as in:
“So did you hear that John ran out on Sheila and their three month old son, to chase after a waitress, who’s only 16!”
“Shit-the-goddam, you can’t be serious!”
It has to be pronounced quite fast, so that all the words blend together :-)

yo fling, you’re not the only nerd… i’m rather partial to “smeg” (which i picked up off Red Dwarf, old UK scifi comedy show)
best line from that show:
“oh smeg! what the smeg’s the smegging smeg done now?”

it’s a toss-up between “shit, piss, and corruption” and “phlegm, mucus, and pus”

For some reason I read j’s comment in a Scottish accent.
I prefer to express frustration by shaking a fist at the sky and yelling “Curses!” I consider it a tribute to Jon Stewart’s style… “RuuuumsFELD!”

I prefer saying “Damn you cruel fate” as I shake my fist to the sky.

“oh smeg! what the smeg’s the smegging smeg done now?”
Actually Heard (by my sister) on a NY Subway:
“So I says to the fuck: ‘Fuck you, you fucking fuck.’”

“Fuck” is the greatest fucking word in the English fucking language. It’s the only inset in English (is that the correct linguistic term), so we have words like Un-fucking-believable, fan-fucking-tastic or fuck-fucking-ing.

Can’t forget “Fuckity-fuck-FUCK!”
Had a friend that used to use “Crap on a crap cracker!”
Matt uses “Schietze” as his cover-all swear word.

Raznor: I don’t know the correct linguistic term but I do know that “fan-fucking-tastic” is an example of tmesis.
My vote has to go to cunt, a much-maligned but useful word, and also the only curse word I can spell simply by covering up portions of my footie shirt.
