“Alas, a Blog” will return!

Posted by Ampersand | January 6th, 2005

As you can see, “Alas” has been taken down by technical difficulties again.

I am determined to lick these problems once and for all (or at least for a good long time). “Alas” will be down for a day or two while I re-set it up, this time using “WordPress.” But it will be back - this time with working comments and less spam.

Thanks to everyone for being patient!

Ooh! I just started tinkering with WordPress, too. Feels weird, don’t it?

Oddly the rdf still reports new posts to my livejournal friends list. Will you be changing that, too? Just curious.

I got this tip to avert comment spam in Wordpress from Brian at freeadvice.ca and I can testify that it works pretty well:

Apparently the spambots are hard-coded to submit comments to WP’s wp-comments-post.php script. So…

    1. Rename your “wp-comments-post.php”? file to to somethig else e.g. “wp-comments-post-xyz.php”?

    2. Search for and change the HTML references to the old filename to now point to your new filename, in these PHP files:
    wp-comments-popup.php
    wp-comments-reply.php
    wp-comments.php

But the spam is what I visited Alas for in the first place! Oh well. I’ll get my Cialis somewhere else.
