YouTube: Journalist Refuses To Lead News With Paris Hilton Story

Good for Mika Brzezinski!

What the video doesn’t make clear is that this is three different incidents, each taking place an hour apart; Brzezinski reads the news at 7am, 8am and 9am, and each time the producer handed her a script with Paris Hilton as the lead story. Each time she refused to read it; the first time simply refusing (the male co-hosts goading her on), the second time trying to set the script on fire (the male host physically grabbed the script from her hands), and the third time theatrically shredding the script.

Kinda a shame that the co-hosts (or whatever) on the program marred her protest by acting like sexist, condescending buffoons throughout.

Check out this interview with Brzezinski about the incident (apparently she’s gotten overwhelmingly positive reactions). And a thematically related Youtube Link, in which MSNBC makes it crystal clear what they think the real news of the day is.

Curtsy: Pandagon.

    Hah! Well done.

Although I will say that the video of Paris Hilton being dragged off to jail while screaming and crying for her mother deserved all the play it got. Let the people who think she’s worth paying attention to see that money and fame doesn’t necessarily keep you for paying for your sins.

That’s fucking hilarious. I mean, in a sad way and all. But still hilarious, the setting on fire. Now I have one more hiro ;D

    Good for her.

Do you think it was a real protest or a staged?

Its tough to tell these days. The patter went really smooth, they didn’t lose a beat on the glib patter, the lighter was very handy as was the shredder.

Interesting. It’s like you wanted to insult Paris Hilton there, and yet, there’s no way to keep a comment like that from reflecting on yourself.

In other words: did you watch it? So, does that mean you think she’s worth paying attention to?

So, didn’t you just, um, backhandedly deprecate yourself? I mean, sorry, but - people can’t take out their personal issues on pretty blonde celebrities forever
(and yes, that was the general “people,” the one that in French would be “on”)
    ;)

It’s pretty common to have shredders around the office… I keep bumping into them when I have to check the printers.

I’m surprised she kept her cool so well. Very professional but yet so… strong in the face of those incompetents that would rather see a woman as a form of entertainment than the injustices done both here and abroad. So bold! So awesome! SO HOT.

I think I have a new crush now.
