The Klan vs. The Klowns!

Posted by Myca | August 30th, 2007

From Asheville Indymedia, we have the heartwarming tale of what happens when the Klan decides to march through Knoxville, TN, and are met on their march . . . by clowns. The photo with the article is awesome. Check it all out here.

A while back, in one or another of the threads, I mentioned to Amp that for certain groups and certain individuals, responding to them seriously, addressing their arguments as if they’re actual arguments, etc., is sort of counter-productive, in that it lends them credibility they wouldn’t have otherwise.
This is a lovely example of how I think we ought to to deal with folks like that.

    Brilliant!

Back when the Klan used to march here, somebody started scheduling the local Pride festival for the same time. It started small, but with facepainting and clowns and all sorts of wholesome family fun - people started going without even realizing they were supporting Pride…and eventually the Klan dudes took their toys and went home.

this is how we do it :)

I tend to agree with tactic. With these extremist, it is best not to give them too much attention. I think counter protests should not be confrontational or angry.

It is better to ignore them at their protest and have some kind of counter activity in another area or in this case just make a joke out of them.

    Some Nazis, their manner deplorable
Were taunted by clowns, quite adorable
Said the clowns, “If we fight
    they assume that they’re right.
But to taunt them with flour? Tres horrible!”
