That’s a great page. The depth of Mirka’s characterisation is awesome.

My complaint, previously stayed is withrawn, with apologies. I shouldn’t have jumped to the conclusion I did.

I wonder what the panel behind her head and shoulders is supposed to say.

  2. Ampersand Writes:

    Thanks, Daran.

To tell you the truth, I just filled up the words in panel 4 (I think it was 4) by quoting Gilbert and Sullivan: “This particularly rapid unintelligible patter isn’t generally heard and if it is it doesn’t matter.”

Yeah, I saw you said that when I looked at the comments on hereville.com after I posted that. I’m kind of disappointed; I was expecting it to be something you couldn’t reveal because it was significant to the resolution of the story.

The last panel has me on the edge of my seat.

  4. Daran Writes:

Incidently, am I right in thinking that “Hereville” is just the English translation of “Aherville”?

  5. Ampersand Writes:

Daran, yes: “Aher” is Yiddish for “Here.” (Confusingly, it’s also Hebrew for “elsewhere”).

    Sorry to disappoint! :-P

There are some “Hereville” related secrets I know, but none of them would have made sense for Mirka to be thinking in this particular context. (Fruma and the Witch know a lot of secrets, but Mirka doesn’t). I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. :-)

    Superb!

Where else but Alas would I learn how to make bilingual Yiddish/Hebrew double-entendres?

  7. Mandolin Writes:

    Yay, Ruddigore!
