I’m Back…Sorta Kinda!
| August 14th, 2008Over the past 2 months I’ve been inundated with baby care. My life has revolved mainly around feeding and diapering 2 little ones, so needless to say I haven’t had much time to blog, but I promise I haven’t given up blogging. I haven’t checked my email or my site, so if you wrote me, I’m just now getting it.
A few weeks after the little guys were born I pledged that I would get back to blogging when they started sleeping through the night–that hasn’t happened yet. But I figure I can put up a couple posts a week until they actually sleep more than 3 hours at a time.
In the meanwhile, here are a few pictures from their first week. The first picture is of Eli in the hospital. We spiked his hair. I think it helps to get a perspective of how big/small they where when you look at them next to their Daddy’s hands. Like most babies, they lost weight in the first few days of life, but what’s more amazing is how much they have grown since then. In this picture, Eli weighed around 7 lbs, and in the picture at the bottom Mark weighs a little less than 6lbs. They were really big for twins, and I admittedly was really happy when I looked at them in the nursery and they didn’t look any different from the singleton babies. That was a great relief for me, because, being a mom of twins, I was at a greater risk for pregnancy related complications, which lingered in the back of my mind throughout the whole pregnancy. I was very fortunate to give birth at 38 weeks and have two big boys. I’ll add more recent pictures over the next few weeks.
And finally, Daddy, Babies, and Mommy want to thank everyone for their well wishes.

Cute kids. I do like the contrast with Dad’s hands, it gives you a real feeling of just what they’re like.
I remember that first night home from the hospital. We’d been married 7 years before deciding to have kids. I looked down into the crib that first night and said “Now what?”
Renee’s right. Enjoy. It’s going to be slow and arduous for a while, and then there’ll be a constant but ever-changing routine as they grow up, busy, busy, busy. Then you’re going to be waving good bye to them 18 or 20 years from now and saying to yourself “What happened? That was quick!” Cherish them, just as hard as you can.

Daran, That’s some weird stuff. I’m not sure if that cake looks more like a baby or an old lady.

Those are some wicked cute kids. Congratulations — kids are a lot of work, but they’re so, so worth it.

Congratulations on your adorable tiny guys! At two months you are coming to the end of peak crying, I promise. Assuming no colic, which one of my twins had. Thank god the other didn’t. I nursed but could only hang on fro six weeks before I literally couldn’t stay awake to nurse both 40 minutes out of every hour. (They were mildly preemie at 35w6d. Plus my daughter was not exactly a pro nurser…she soon learned I had a leaky breast and instead of latching on she would just open her mouth to catch the drops of milk! It was hilarious but also frustrating. :)
If I had it to do over again I would nurse my son, who was like a hoover vacuum cleaner, and just let my daughter drink formula. But I was terrified because I didn’t bond as quickly with her as with him, due to the nursing difference (that power feeder provides such profound relief that it seems more like a two way street). So it didn’t seem “fair” to me to nurse just my son.
But they are our first and only children and I just didn’t realize how much I’d warm up to DD once she got a little more interesting. She hated being a helpless baby, but cheered up and became the sunniest little person around once she could crawl! And as soon as she could crawl (literally the first time), she crawled right over to me with a big grin and hugged me. All doubts about bonding with her flew out the window in that moment!
Good luck with your matched set! Let me know if you ever want to do some twin talk. :)
