Congratulations to Rachel Swirsky, aka Mandolin!

Her story “A Monkey Will Never Be Rid of Its Black Hands,” published online by Subterranean Press, has been judged one of “the best online short stories published during 2008″ by storySouth.

    I’m Sierra Leonean, andI really did not appreciate the story at all. I have friends who were former child soldiers and this just tries to demonize them in a very unfair manner. The writer should def’n check her privilege when handling such sensitive subject matter.
