New spam-blocking software!
| July 20th, 2009
There’s been a change in how we’re blocking spam — In an attempt to address the “false positives” problem, I’ve switched “Alas” from Akismet to Spam Karma. Hopefully it will now be possible for people to post links in their comments!
As always, if you run into problems or think a comment has been spam-blocked, please contact us right away so we can rescue your comment. Also, I believe Spam Karma has a “whitelist” option, so if regular commenters find their comments being blocked we’ll be able to fix that. (I hope).

Would you like to learn to play video poker while using The Secret to enhance your penis size?
If you can read this comment, your filter isn’t very good.

Actually, that it showed your comment despite the keywords shows that the filter might be very good indeed. Or that it’s not working at all. One or the other.

Could it be interfering with your right sidebar’s ability to display new comments?

Yeah. But far outweighing that is that I’m now allowed to put links into comments & not have them caught by the spam filter.

I switched from Akismet quite some time ago because of pretty much the same reasons. I kept getting spam comments constantly and I’d spend a good hour a day going through and getting rid of bad comments and then see a whole mess of good comments that were quarantined. I switched to Defensio for my spam protection and have yet to change to anything else because I like it so much. Just another suggestion if Spam Karma doesn’t work out.

It would be nice if keyword based SPAM filters gave some kind of feedback. I had a post here go into the SPAM bucket for no reason I could tell. No mention of low rate home mortgage loan refinancing, make money fast, or penis enlargement.
